Motorcycle Repair: 1971 Honda 750 four, honda 750 four, sediment bowl

Question
How do I remove the petcock form the tank. I found a small hole in the bowl and instead of replacing just the bowl I want to replace the whole petcock.

Answer
Bubba, I may tell you wrong but here goes. Honda used about 3 different styles. One had a large nut threaded on to the tank and valve holding it in place. Another was kind of oval in shape at the tank base and the sediment bowl had to be removed off the bottom of the valve to gain access to the screws inside the mounted it to the tank. The other was a flange with two screws on the outside of the valve base with a gasket between the tank and valve. Which ever one you have there will be two tubes that go up into the tank. A tall one the is the main fuel inlet to the valve and a shorter one that is the reserve inlet. Some rust off and some plug up so be careful they may be brittle. I have seen some of these valves at a salvage yard but there again they coud be as bad or worse than yours. Try Steves Cycle Salvage in Tifton Ga 1-800-622-9253 they have about 7 acres of used bikes. If no luck I have seen some on E-Bay for about $6.00 up to $70.00.
