Motorcycle Repair: starter on heritage, clutch basket, jackshaft

Question
QUESTION: I'm pretty sure the starter is shot and not being an overly knowledgeable wrench turner, how difficult is changing a starter on my 98 Heritage ?

ANSWER: Just to make sure its the starter, why do you think its shot?

QUESTION: It used to spin a few times then catch and start, now all it does is spin. Spin may not be the right word, but that's kinda what it sounds like. Thanksscpm

Answer
Bendix is out of the starter, so yes it needs to be replaced. To change it out you have to remove the pirmary oil, primary cover, motor sprocket and clutch basket. you then hae to remove the jackshaft. Then, remove the wires to the starter, after disconnecting the battery, and the two bolts holding the starter in.
Good luck and happy riding
