Motorcycle Repair: Cutting out at full throttle, honda shadow 1100, market pipes

Question
I have a 1999 Honda Shadow 1100. When I crank the throttle wide open or nearly wide open, it cuts out. At lowwer speeds or lower RPM, it seems to run fine. I have changed both fuel and air filters as well as spark plugs. What would be the next step in diagnosing the problem?

Answer
Mike it could be several things causing this problem. Lets start with the cheapest fix first. There could be a restriction of fuel at high RPM. Pull the top off the carbs and check the diaphragms see if there is a pin hole in the rubber around the slide also check the slide needle hanging down for a fuel varnish build up on the needle. If ok then put slide back in carb and feel if the slide moves freely up and down in the carb bore if one of them sticks it will not meter the fuel correctly. Use carb cleaner spray carefully and clean the slide and slice bore. Caution it may make the rubber swell and not fit the top of the carb so try not to get it on this part.If the bike has been setting a while there may be a build up of varnish in one or more of the jet circuits. Also just a question, Has the exhaust pipes been changed to after market pipes or if the stock pipes are sill on has a baffel fallenout? Let me know and I will try to help you further.
