Motorcycle Repair: clutch casing, crank case, honda cb750

Question
QUESTION: I am leaking oil from the clutch case near where the cable goes in.It looks like a new gasket was put on,perhaps to stop the leak.I just got the bike.I do now that they fixed the kick starter before shipping it to me,perhaps they messed up the gasket then.I dont think he would of sold it like that, and it does seem to have gotten worse over the 100 miles that ive drived it.question one.do i need to use a gasket sealer with the new honda gasket i have? Do I need to drain oil from oil tank and crank case? If the new gasket doesnt help, should I put on new clutcu case?I really want to ride my new honda cb750 k1 .Thanks for your help!

ANSWER: Rob,make sure its the gasket thats leaking first.Wipe the area clean with a dry rag the be careful spray if you have it carb cleaner or brake cleaner on the area and wipe clean If it continues to leak out when running it wont be hard to locate the problem. If it leaks out just sitting there not running, check the case bolts to see if they are tight. Here's the problem that sometimes occurs. If the gasket is OEM or aftermarket some brands use a silicone bead on the gasket to help in sealing and eliminating its sqeezing out. However some poeple will put more silicone on the gasket to help seal it better but when it reacts to oil it turns into a slime and the gasket will leak. Maybe get a new gasket and cover bolts(allen head) they will tighten down better and more positive.Carefully lay the bike over to the left and prop it up with something so when you pull the clutch cover you wont lose all the oil. Remove the kickstarter bolt and remove the cover bolts. Clean both surfaces thoroughly and inspect the cover for any cracks in the area you saw the oil leak.If it looks ok put the new gasket on dry if you can and put in the new bolts.aput a little grease around the kick start shaft so it wont damage the seal and aid it putting the cover on. Tighten the bolts evenly and install the kickstart lever then stand the bike up wait 5 min check the oil level and fire it up and check for leaks. If it does'nt leak you are good to go.

QUESTION: Thanks Gary,as soon as I get my gasket from honda i will put it on dry.thanks for the quick response too.

Answer
Rob, If for some reason the gasket does'nt have the silicone line on the gasket try s product called yama-bond. I believe its the gray kind that gets hard upon drying. Kawasaki even uses a similar product called Kawabond. This stuff is evil and hard to get off you fingers if you get it on you,but it works good.
