Motorcycle Repair: 1965 CL 72, honda scrambler, honda shop

Question
I have a CL 72 that I purchased new when I was a mechanic for a Honda shop.  The top end is siezed from setting too long.  In about 1968 I bored it out to a 305. Are there sources out there for new sleeves, rings and pistons?  I have been waiting to retire so I can start restoring my scrambler and am finally there. Thanks for your time. Gene.

Answer
Gene, Ebay often has CB/CL pistons/rings for sale. You can even use late style CA72 parts. Any of the 250cc cylinder blocks after 1961 can be used, but be aware that there are two widths of camchain tensioners and matching cylinder blocks. I have a nice set of 250 cylinders, but they are already out to 1.00. There were aftermarket sleeves made in Japan, back in the 1960s, which sometimes come up for sale on Ebay. LA Sleeve can make up sleeves in any size, but they are not inexpensive.

You might want to join the Honda305 group on Yahoo to connect with other enthusiasts.

I have 1,000 pages of Honda Scrambler info available on CDs, if you need a refresher course, but I imagine you have them embedded into your memory even now.
