Motorcycle Repair: Electrical system, click sound, c battery

Question
My son bought a 1986 Suzuki 700 Intruder. He turned on the key  switch and the kill switch. When he hit the start button all the power for the bike shut off. No lights, not even a click sound from the ignition system. We jumped the battery side of the solenoid to another M/C battery.  The wiring harness started to fry(not good retaped wires) When we jumped the other side of the solenoid the lights lit up on the bike. We decided to replace the solenoid relay. After which there was still no lights or clicking sound from the ignition system. We found 12v on solenoid line, 0 on the solenoid load terminal while pressing start button. Tried the jumping the solenoid again. One side gives lights and power to start the bike and the other kicks the starter on manually. Do we have a fuse popped, broken wire, faulty kill switch? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John

Answer
It could be as simple as a bad connection on the battery.Remove the cables from the battery and clean the put the cables back on. There should be a small wire on the pos lead  that is the power source for the bikes main system. It should have power at the main fuse if not the power wire may have lost continuity where its soldered inside of the battery cable. Which can be replace easily by you and not a shop.
