Motorcycle Repair: Idle jets, honda bikes, vintage honda

Question
I saw on a previous response regarding a Honda '71 K3 Trail 90 that you were recommending #85 and #35 jets.  The Carb Rebuild kits for my K2 Trail 90 are indicating a #62 Main jet.  What's the correct answer?

Answer
Kevin,  Not sure how I got a #85 main jet for a previous answer on a K1... maybe a typo on my part.

Honda book shows #78 / #35 combo for K1 and #65 / #35 for K2.

Float levels are different.... K1 at 23.5 and K2 at 20.mm

These are all settings for dead stock CT90s, however.  Change the air filter/exhaust/cam/piston and your settings may need to be changed to other values.

ALWAYS set valves first, check compression, remove/inspect/lube the spark advancer and use a fully charged battery before starting further troubleshooting/adjustments on the carburetors.

As a final note, to confuse you all further, I am finding that most of my vintage Honda bikes are running MUCH better with slightly larger main jets than stock. That's because of the alcohol in the gasoline now, which changes viscosity of the fuel, as well as a lower level of fuel energy in the gasoline, these days.
