Motorcycle Repair: Honda PowerTrain Swap, shaft drive, motorcycle engines

Question
Motorcycle Repair: Honda PowerTrain Swap, shaft drive, motorcycle engines
2000 VT100
I want to build a bobber.
Will a custom shop be able to swap the power train from a 2000 VT1100 to a 2006 VT600.

Answer
Hi Zed,

You would be better off building or buying a custom frame
for that 1100 engine. The 600 frame is too small
and the 1100 is a shaft drive.

I cannot see any possible way to do that
without major modifications to the 600
at great expense.

Motorcycle engines rarely swap like some automotive engines do.
The engine is made specifically for the frame it is in. Motor mounts would
not be the same and I think the 1100 engine
is too tall for the 600 frame as well.

Then there is the problem of changing over
and mounting all the electrics for ignition,
starting and other functions.

It is almost easier to start from scratch and
just modify parts to fit as you go.
It would be a good winter project though.

Good luck!
