Motorcycle Repair: superhawk tach, speedometer shop, cb77

Question
I've just finished restoring a '63 CB77 and have a tach needle that jumps all over the place.  It generally seems optimistic sometimes reading 12,000 RPM at 70KPH!  The cable is new and well lubed and where it enters the head has been cleaned and lubed and there are no strange noises coming from either item.  Should I be thinking of dismantling and repairing the tach? Thanks

Answer
Kevin,   Short answer is YES!.  The bushings in the speedo/tach drive need special lubrication. You may have something hanging on the magnet inside, as well.

Just about all of the 1960s instruments need a trip to the speedometer shop for cleaning, inspection, repair, lubrication and calibrations. If you keep running it as it is, it will become unrepairable.
