Motorcycle Repair: Slip-ons, harley sound, dyna jet

Question
Hey Mike,
I asked a few weeks back about synthetic oil in a bike I was buying. Thanks for your reply, I did buy a 89 FLHS w 25500 on it and I have put synthetic in it. My question is, the bike I bought is total stock w Crome add-ons, I want a lil more "Harley" sound outta her. I am looking at getting some slip on mufflers. Will I need to rejet the carb? Is that something I could do on my own or would you recommend taking to a shop?
Thanks in advance for all the time u put into this site,
Mike from PA

Answer
Rejetting is going to depend on how open the exhaust is. Your best indicator is install the pipes and then go for a ride of about 5 miles and pull the plugs. If they are white then you will need to rejett. Tan color and you are fine. If you want to jet it yourself I would get a Dyna-Jet kit. If will rejett your bike and give you more throttle responce. Has great directions to follow and you should have no trouble.
Good luck and happy ridind
Mike
