Motorcycle Repair: Honda nighthawk550 83, honda nighthawk 550, comprehension problem

I popped the clutch on my 83 Honda nighthawk 550 a few yrs bak. It ran fine for a week or two after. Immidiately After adding more oil it began smokin out of the tailpipes and I had to drive it home using the choke. Since then I have pit new oil oil filter, spark plugs, and new gas in it. It will turn over and idle but it will only rev up to about 5000 before it gives out. Update:: just changed plugs out because we had champions in it which aren't ment for that bike. But NGKs in it. Now it won't even turn over. Please help I love this bike. Want to ride before winter. Also the carbs have Ben cleaned

Devin, Im having a slight comprehension problem. Are you saying the clutch broke or you actually let the clutch out fast as if drag racing. If it broke did all the pieces get removed or are some of them floating around inside the cases c reating damage? Could I get some more info? Did the clutch get replaced  or a change of oil and filter and an over fill ect...
