the kick start wont turn the engine to crank it i took the cover off and nothing is broke there is one spot on the gear thats broke one tooth any ideas

Victor,Where is the piece thats broke off? Is it in a spline or tooth or is it on the bottom? The cases let the shafts get a little out of alignment and the kick starter will get into a bind and can break or as you have noticed break a tooth.Make sure engine turns over. You may have to replace the kick start components and try again.
