Motorcycle Repair: carb, middle groove, white knuckle ride

Question
Hey Gary

me again , adjusted some stuff and mid range to top end running is bogging out, any suggestions, now i have a what looks like choke lever where my enrichment device thing is, do i remove and turn nut or am i way off?

Answer
No, try the needle in the fuel slide.Depending on the bike loosen the two clamps on the boots and turn carb to access the top Take the top off and pull the slide up and out and check the needles position. The needle a lot of times has 5 grooves in the top and the circlip may be in the middle or the 4th groove from the top this may be to rich. Try the middle groove or if its already there the go to the 2nd groove from the top as this will lean out the mid and high range for the rpms. It sounds like it may be to much fuel in this range. Put needle in slide and slide back into carb. Make sure it goes in with the locator pin in the groove on the slide and drops into the carb easily. If its wrong and you get it started it may rev up and blow up because its not slowing down the fuel/air mix or it may take you on a wild white knuckle ride.
