Motorcycle Repair: Carb problem, fuel pumps, fuel quality

Question
Thank you for taking the time to read my question, and hopefully help with my problem.

I have a 2000 Polaris Magnum 325 4x4. It has been running well, but sat without being started for 4-5 weeks. When I tried to start it, I gave it full choke, turned it over, and it started. I moved to half choke, and it still ran fine. When I pressed the throttle, the machine stalled. I let it sit for an hour, and tried again. This time I tried applying the throttle with full choke, and the same thing happened.

From what I have read, this may be a dirty carb problem. I used carb cleaner, but did not disassemble the carb. I have never done this, and would appreciate your input before I pull the whole thing apart chasing something that isn't the real problem.

The fuel is new for this season, and I use fuel stablilizer.

Thanks again.

Answer
It sounds as though you still have a carb problem. Try the drain screw on the bottom of the carb first. With the fuel quality and the temp changes the fuel may have seperated.Drain out the old fuel in the carb and let fresh fuel flow into carb and try this first. See if the quad will run. If not it will be time to remove the carb. The stabilizer a lot of the time protects the fuel in the tank not the carb or fuel pumps. If this does'nt work let me know and I will talk you through the carb rebuild. Gary...
