Motorcycle Repair: screeching noise in engine of 1998 1500cc vulcan classic, flywheel, clutch

I have a 1998 1500 cc vulcan classic that has a screeching noise in the lower part of the engine around the starter or generator. Any ideas?

Answer
This may be one of the units that the allen bolts backed out of the flywheel. This allows the one way clutch to rattle and slip. Also there is a bolt that holds the flywheel on and has a locking serated washer that could be loose. Any way the left cover is going to have to come off and inspect this area for damaged or loose parts. The starter also runs a small chain that turns the oneway clutch when starting but free spins after the engine starts.
