Motorcycle Repair: stuck, harly, hi chris

1 have a 1991 harly xl 1200 changed bars didnt touch wires now the thing will run for a lil and suht down i can here relay reset than i got power again looked behind controls for pinched wire nothing but my oil looks thin dont know much about the newer xl

Hi Chris,

It might be a wire got scraped or
whatever but if you can find no
shorts or bad connections then
it might just be a bad main 30 amp relay.

There was a recall around that time
about faulty main relay breakers:
Recall Notice: 0075: RCL:90/91 30AMP MAIN CIRC BRKR

It might be the relay just went bad
otherwise it has to be some added amp drain
from the circuits so check for
wire rub throughs or even just
loose or bad connections on the
battery or the handlebar/control wiring.

Try a new main relay if you can't find any other
suspects. It should be either near the battery
or on the back fender with other relays.
