Motorcycle Repair: dieing yamaha, wifes, pivot

My wifes 2008 250 Star has started dieing as soon as you put it in gear. It is not a clutch problem but I think that it might have something to do with the switch that will not allow you to start the bike in gear. Can you tell me where this switch is located and how to bypass it. Thank you

The bike has a side stand switch located on the left side below the frame on the side stand pivot. Sometimes the switch craps out and it will shut the bike down when its put in gear.The switch can be can be unlugged and it should work. Its there so the rider doesnt drive off with it down causing an accident.
