Motorcycle Repair: cb900 running on 2 cylinders, cb 900, carbs

Question
hi my 81 cb 900 seems to be running on 2 cylinders .sometimes ,when i pull in the clutch and really wind it out it usually comes out of it also seems to run a bit better with the choke on sometimes . i have cleaned and balanced the carbs recently .do u think it could be a pulse coil problem? i also replaced the ignition coil  that controls cylinders 1 and 4 however it was a used part .when i pullee out the plug on cylinder 1 it had'nt looked black but a light brown tinge. thank you for any help

Answer
Not much info, it would help if you told me which two...  Anyway, if it is 1 and 4 or 2 and 3, then they share ignition pickup and coils.  Since you replaced the coil, the igniter and pickup are suspect.  If the cylinders do not share the ignition, then check the carbs again.

Good luck,  Jan
