Motorcycle Repair: 97 Cu in S & S Motor, true thanks, oil pump

Question
I just started the bike after about 2 yrs. . I changed the oil . There is oil leaking out from a filter on the side of the motor. I called a local shop they said this normal It' s called " sumping it happens after a long sit , let it run and it will clear up , It's a spring and will stop by it self. Is this true  ? ? ?

Thanks Bob

Answer
Yes, that is true. What happens is oil will weep past the check valve in the oil pump. The bottom end gets alot of oil in it. When you start the bike the oil pump cant pump the oil back to the tank fast enough, so it comes out the vent. Once the bottom end is empty it will stop.
Good luck and happy riding
