Motorcycle Repair: 1998 Suzuki GSXR 600 - Acceleration Trouble, suzuki gsxr 600, fuel injector cleaner

Question
Hi Sir
I am having problems with my GSXR 600 when riding.  The bike sat for about 8 months but started up with a charged battery.  however, after riding for a very short time and especially in 2nd and 3rd gear, the bike will not accelerate well and begins to make a sound like a lawn mower.  The RPMs will not exceed 3000 and the bike dies some of the time.
When riding, I have also experienced the bike sputtering to accelerate.
What could be the issue??

Thanks
Zach

Answer
My son has a GSXR and it sits a lot. The problem we experienced was the fuel system starts to plug up because of the poor quality of fuel we have been getting. The throttle bodies get a build up of varnish and restrict the jets and fuel passages. If you get it running the sludge breaks off and can move into the passages and mess with the runability. If you cannot get the throttle bodies off try some Lucas fuel injector cleaner and put about a 1/2 bottle in the tank.It will help break down the varnish to go through the jets easier.Use the remaining portion on the next tank.
