Motorcycle Repair: 1986 FXR rear brake, mile test, master cylinder

Question
Hello Mike - I was unable to respond to your question on previous note, so am submitting a reply to your inquiry:

When they say the brakes are to tight, how tight are they? Are they stopping the wheel or just rubbing?

I've been told that after the rotor and pads were changed a 4-5 mile test ride took place. Caliper was warm to the touch.

The next day the master cylinder was rebuilt and after that the bike has been on the lift, started and put in gear to drive rear wheel and apply the brake.

While this has taken place, the technician has watched the pads move and feels under normal operation the wheel would eventually be stopped due to caliper lockup.

Is there anything else that may need to be reviewed at this point?
Thank you for your time and help.

Answer
There are only two reasons for a caliber to lock up. Either the pressure is not bleeding off the master cylinder or the pressure is not bleeding off the caliber. In the 4 or 5 mile ride was the brakes applied? If they were the caliber would get warm. Also, there might be slight rubbing fromt he pads touching the disk. This is normal for brakes.
