Motorcycle Repair: atv, starter fluid, airbox

Question
hi i have a yamaha 450cc quad and its not starting but is turning over i think it is the carb how do i remove it.

Answer
Dont pull the carb yet. Change the plug first the coil is attatched to the plug and the fuel tank has to be remove to get to it,it may be fouled. With the air cleaner lid off and no tank  on yet try to start the engine. While cranking the engine hold the throttle open and squirt some starter fluid into the airbox and see if it fires. If so put the tank on and the air cleaner lid and try again with the fuel on.If it fires up you are good to finish. If it does not the drain the gas from the carb from the drain screw in the bottom of the carb bowl.Turn gas back on let run out of drain then close drain. Now gas is getting to carb and its fresh. Try starting it again and see what happens. Sometimes these units get enough hours of use on them the valves dot get adjusted and they wont start. Check the most obvious first then if all else fails then remove the carb clean and adjust.
