Motorcycle Repair: starter of 1999 honda shdow aero 1100, starter clutch, slipper clutch

Hi,
When I hit the starter button the starter makes a noise that sounds like a grrrr it put sme inmind of a car starter when the starter is "slipping"  I have no idea of what to do to find out what is wrong

My son traded for a bike like this one only a 2000 model. I dont think it changed much. His starter was making weird noises. We pulled the starter and the one way slipper clutch was not working all the time. The starter was cleaned and the brgs lubed'we replaced the starter clutch and its working fine. We had to pull the side cover and drain the oil out and was able to reuse the cover gasket. But we did put in fresh oil.
