Motorcycle Repair: Gear Shifting, yamaha yzf r1, electronic control module

Question
I got a 2004 yamaha yzf r1 which i purchased about 3 months ago. The problem is that when I get up to a 100mph the gear shift indicator light comes on and I can't shift anymore. I'm already in the 6th gear, and the bike is straining like there is some type of governor on it. So if you can give me some type of general idea what the issue might be. Thanks

I,m not sure on this one but some models of have a rev limiter built into the ignition system to keep the engine from overrevving and damaging the valves. It sounds as if its trying to come on to early.Before you invest in a electronic control module which are expensive and cannot be returned check the valve clearance first to see if they are to tight and make sure they arent floating out at the high RPM.
