Motorcycle Repair: CBX1000 Prolink running irregular, backplate, carbs

Question
Hi Jan, I hope you can help me on this one. I'm out of options I'm afraid :-(
I own a US-original Prolink since 1999. Bike always ran well, but after this winter will not run nicely. What I found and did:
1. Cylinder exhaust 1 and 6 stay relatively cold. They both are behind coil 1.
2. Plugs 1 and 6 spark (outside the engine) and get moist with fuel (inside)
3. I interchanged coil 3 with coil 1 to eliminate the coils: nothing changed
4. I interchanged the OKI units to eliminate a faulty one. nothing changed, but engine sounds to run a bit worse
5. I replaced spark plugs: nothing changed
6. I replaced all sparkplug cables and caps last year
7. After visual inspections did not notice any bare cables
8. Inspected and cleaned connectors to eliminate bad connections related to corrosion or grease/dirt.
9. Low or high revs do not make a difference.
10. Bike starts as usual #normal procedure) and immediately when warm

I'm addressing myself to you now hoping one of your over 50 CBXes showed a similar issue and hope you can advice on a solution.
In advance thank you very much for your reply.
Best Regards

Answer
Love a CBX question, for a change!  The one item you have not exchnaged is the pickup unit, but failures on these are very rare.  It's worth checking that the three pickup units are firmly attached to the backplate but otherwise I would assume that they are OK.  The problem you describe could also be related to your slow running jets being clogged, and the lucky part of that is that you can get to the bowls on the outer carbs without taking the carbs out.  It depends on the year of your bike as to whether it has screw in slow running jets, or pressed in jets #35 in size.  I would take a piece of spark erosion machine cutting wire, which is fairly stiff, and is about the right size, and run it into the slow running jet if it cannot be removed in place.  My guess is that once you clear these two jets, the bike will run fine again.  The slow running jet is located in the hole next to the position where the main screw-in jet is located.  Let me know,  Jan
