Motorcycle Repair: help on 1980, cb650 honda, cb650 honda, 1980 cb650

Question
Well, I bought this bike, cb650 honda, 80 model. It was running great. I rode it for about an hour and it quit, long story short, turns out bike hasnt been charging, I rode last summer by charging batterie and not riding at night. Ran great as long as I had juice in the battery. previous owner had mechanic replace stator, rectifier. I replaced stator, battery, two rectifiers, last one brand new, & starter. when I put the stator in, I am confused on which one goes to pick up coil for black and white. I hooked everything up, it started after 5 minutes, cold bike and hard to start. It ran ok, so I go up the road and it quit. I looked down and it burnt the black wire from stator into, so I fixed and switched black and white at the plug. It now has magnetic charge when running at the casing, but when checking ohms on rotor, cold was 8 and hot was 10 between the two tracks. While running, I am not getting any reading from stator plug to rectifier. Runs fine one minute and won't start the next and still not charging. I tooke wire harness off, discovered a few little nicks, fixed and check continuity in most wires. I am at my wits end, out $1000.00 and no bike to ride. Can anyone shed some light on my situation?? I haven't switched rotor yet, but don't think I need to.

Answer
Your rotor is way out of specs, as you can see by the directions given at Electrosports.
When you buy a new one, buy a proper rotor puller tool to go with it.....

Robbie....  You DO have to replace the rotor. It is the most common failure on these bikes.

ALL Honda wires are color coded and must be connected correctly.

Electrosport has diagnostic diagrams in their resources section, as well.
