Yes jan i have a ? for ya...
  I have a 83 550 nighthawk and about a yr ago i took the carbs to a motorcycle dealer to have them cooked and rebuilt. i got them back after 100$ put them on,hooked everything back up and tried to fire it up and on around the bottom on one carb fuel was leaking around. i got online here and was looking at this website where i found you and a gentlemen asked about the same sort of ? for you. and im sure the bottom float bowl was tightened. If you have any idea lol get back to me.

Hi Mike,

Either the overflow tube has corroded and has a leak, or the float valve is not closing properly (could be dirt) and therefore the gas is not being closed when the level is reached.  Or perhaps the float itself is stuck, sometimes a light tap on the carb body frees it up; usually you have to go in and establish what the fault is...  Good luck,  Jan
