Motorcycle Repair: 1992 Gsxr750, seafoam, carbs

Question
The shop wants $500  to clean the carbs out,  Can I just use some seafoam in the tank and spray the carbs down with it to save me $500???

Answer
Hi Dan,

Carb cleaning can be done lightly or thoroughly
but the results may vary.

Here is a carb cleaning document that may help:
http://www.thegsresources.com/files/GS%20Carb%20Cleaning%20Series.pdf

You can get some good carb cleaner from Yamaha.
Fill the float bowls with a mixture of this
and let it sit overnight.

Drain the carbs and flush them a few times
with fuel. Add seafoam to your fuel
and see if it will run, warm it up
and see how it works.
If it doesn't clean out you may have to remove the carbs
and jets and soak the carbs in cleaner,
blow them out with air and if your carbs
have been leaking you may need a carb kit
with gaskets and float needle/seats in it.

It can be done at home  but any errors could be costly.
Follow the above guide if you decide to remove them.
A few soaks of yamaha brand carb cleaner might work if
the carbs are not too bad. The yamaha brand
will not hurt rubber and plastic.

Good luck!
