Motorcycle Repair: tail light fuse keeps blowing, 1980 honda cm400t, light fuse

Question
Hello Bill,
I have a 1980 honda cm400t which blows the tail light fuse every time i turn on the bike. i understand it is most likely damaged wire grounding out on my frame or some other metal or something but im just trying to figure out the locations i should look into. or if theres any kind of options i could try i would appreciate your advice. thank you very much,

Alex

Answer
Alex, pull the seat off so you can check the wiring from the harness connectors back to the tail light assembly.

Probably the tail light wire has been grounded or pinched against some grounded metal. Sometimes, the bulb sockets come apart internally. Pull the tail light lens and remove the bulb to check condition of the bulb socket and contact base. If you disconnect the tail light wires from the harness connectors, you can push the light bulb socket base forward out of socket housing to see if there are exposed wires or damaged contacts.
