Motorcycle Repair: Carburetor Question, suzuki bandit 600, jb weld

Question
Hi my question is regarding the re-installation of carburetors (4 in line) on my suzuki bandit 600. Having damaged carburetor no.1 during cleaning and maintanace, this had to replaced. It was replaced with a no.2 off an identical line of carbs (no.1 was damaged on the spare set). However because the no.2 now finds itself on the end of the line of carbs, there is a hole where the fuel line would have connected to the next carb. This hole is now facing the offside of the bike and so fuel will come out and it will affect pressure. Am I able to simply block up this hole with something? Or must I get another no.1 carb from another set

Answer
Arwyn, the carbs are designed to be used as they are.

You didn't give the year, but I looked up the 600 Bandit carb illustrations and it looks like the fuel passages are all interconnected from the middle going out, so I understand your question.

If you can come up with a suitable plug for the outer fitting hole, then you can use the #2 carb, as it is, I suppose, if the throttle shaft fittings are all lining up properly. In the US we have a product called JB-Weld that is an epoxy material that is pretty fuel-proof, in most cases. I would also look for some kind of small disc/plug that could be used to back up the epoxy repairs, so the material doesn't work its way down the fuel passages before it hardens.

If #1 carb is hard to locate, then try repairing/modifying what you have,  just make sure that it will be a completely leak-proof repair, so you don't wind up as a flaming fireball flying down the motorway.
