Motorcycle Repair: 1981 Honda CB750K crank oil seal, 1981 honda cb750k, generator coils

Question
I have a 1981 Honda CB750k and lost spark a 1/2 block from
my house. I replaced the cdi's as they had melted some of
the resin out(a lot of it had melted before I bought the
bike)and had spark but a very small one. I took the pulse
generator cover off the left hand side of engine and when I
loosened the 3 phillips bolts oil started leaking out! I
want to know if it is possible to replace the crank oil seal
with out pulling the engine and opening the crank case? I
have heard there is a tool that allows you to do this from
outside the engine but an expert's advice would be greatly
appreciated.Thanks Bill, Pat

Answer
Pat... Breathe! Relax! The pulse generator coils are oil-cooled and there is nothing wrong with your bike's engine there, unless a pulse generator coil has failed. The only crankshaft seal to deal with is on the other end at the rotor.

Usually the CDI modules are the ones to go haywire, but make sure that your charging system is all up to specs. These engines tend to have rotor coil meltdowns, so the charging system fails. Test the stator windings, brushes, wire connector, reg-rectifier and overall charging system outputs.
