Motorcycle Repair: spark plugs, rear cylinder, good luck

Question
I have a 1996 883 with 62000 miles. the front plug looks lean and the rear looks rich. At times mostly cold but not always it will poop though carb.

Answer
Popping back through the carb when cokld is pretty common. With 62,000 miles you plugs could look a little different. Your rear cylinder could be burning a some oil and that would make it look rich. Since you only have one carb you would have the same amount of fuel going to each cylinder.
Good luck and happy riding
