Motorcycle Repair: Pecking noise, adjustable pushrods, lifter

Question
About a week ago I turned over my '93 Sportster xlh 883 while it was running. Ever since then there has been a pecking sound coming from the front cylinder. Could this be a lifter and how hard would it be to fix? Thanks!

Answer
If you have a ticking sound it probably is a lifter. Its valve lash that is making the noise. It really doesnt hurt anything, its just annoying. There is no repair except to repalce the lifter. In order the replace it you would either have to remove the heads or install adjustable pushrods in the motor to get it out
Good luck and happy riding
