Motorcycle Repair: 8 degree rake in the neck, frame jig, softail standard

Question
Hi, I am from Australia and hope to get some advice if you dont mind. I have a 2009 softail standard and were looking at getting rake in the tree and have been advised against it by a bike builder here. he is advising me to get a better ride i should cut the neck and rake to 8 degrees. He assures me that this will be a superior ride. Please advise. Rob

Answer
Adding rake at the tree and cutting the neck and adding rake is doing the same thing. the only difference is adding the rake at the tree cost less. Also, cutting hte neck means that you would have to find somebody with a frame jig to do the cutting and welding. Adding 8 degrees is quit a bit of additional rake. One thing you have to remember, more rake and the better the bike goes in a straight line, but is harder to turn
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
