Motorcycle Repair: 2002 Dyna quits after about a block of riding, petcock, straight shots

Question
QUESTION: I just purchased a 02 Dyna, it has V%26H straight shots on it. I pull the chock and hit the start button and it fires right up. I let it warm up for 5 minutes and take off. I will get a block or two and the bike will quit when down shifting. If you let it sit for 5 minutes it will start again but it sounds like it is running out of fuel. I've checked the flow from the tank by removing the fuel line and applying vacuum to the petcock and it flows ok. Not sure where to go from here?
Thanks

ANSWER: Check to make sure you are getting spark and let me know

QUESTION: Lots of spark, bike will start and idle. Just seems that when I start to ride it runs out of fuel.

Answer
First, try going for a ride with the gas cap off. If it runs fine then you know the vent in the cap is plugged. if it still shuts off then check the vaccumn line going to the petcock. If it still shuts off then when it does shut the petcock and pull the bowl on the carb and see if it had fuel in it. the float might be sticking
Good luck and happy riding
