Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha PW50, yamaha pw 50, cylinder bore

Question
My son is at an age that he is asking to ride motorcycles. His uncle, my brother gave us his sons old Yamaha pw 50 that has not been ran in two years.Last time they ran it they noticed a leek in the transmission and there it sat.Years later it seems to not turn the engine over with the kick starter.Do you know what this can be and is it worth repairing? Can I get an engine repair manuel?

Answer
Mark, if the engine doesn't turn over, most likely the piston has seized in the cylinder bore. Could be stuck from rust or sometimes from varnished oil/gasoline deposits.

Small bore 2 strokes are pretty easy to repair, but you will have to take it apart carefully so you don't cause more damage to the engine.

Go to EBAY and type in PW50 in search box to get about 1500 listings. There are PW50 forums and websites all over the internet. There should be copies of manuals available, if you can't get them from your local Yamaha dealer.
