Motorcycle Repair: suzuki intruder, bikebandit com, suzuki intruder

Question
hi, please help i'm new to the bike world and i just a bought a 94 intruder 1400 back in april and i've only ridden it a hand full of times its been running great until just about 20 min ago. i was cruisin around and it cut off on me then when i turned it back on it sounded kind of weak and airy kinda like a jet ski and it backed fired a couple of times it had almost no power when i throttled it and it even sounded different i thought it was that i was running out of gas but i can still hear gasoline splashing around in the tank.

Answer
Henry....  "Hearing gas in the tank" isn't the same as checking to see if it has to go on reserve (if the bike has reserve). I am not familiar with Suzuki Intruders, so can't say for sure what is going on.

If the bike is misfiring and weak, it sounds like one cylinder is not firing.

I just took a moment and went here: http://www.bikebandit.com/1994-suzuki-motorcycle-vs1400glpr-intruder/o/m6841   it looks to me like there is a fuel switch that will toggle to a reserve feature, so find yours and turn it to reserve to see if that was the problem.

Note: You must run these bikes regularly and/or add fuel stabilizer to the fuel tank to minimize fuel separation and contamination.  If today's fuel sits for more than a few weeks, it will separate into a layer of alcohol and gasoline and the alcohol falls to the bottom and plugs up the idle jets, which causes hard starting, poor/no idle conditions.

If your bike didn't have an owner's manual, find one on Ebay or try to order it. There are Intruder forums online which can help guide you in troubleshooting and general maintenance. I hope you have taken the MSF classes to help keep you safe and prepared for the challenges of motorcycle riding.
