Motorcycle Repair: no spark, bank angle, senser

Question
I have a 1998 FLHRCI (road king classic) that will not start (but only intermittently).  It appears that there is no spark to the plugs ( tested it)when it won't start.    However, some time it starts and the next time it won't.  I replaced the coil - thinking that was it, but obviously not.  Talked with a dealer and he said it could be the VAS sensor - he wants to try that.  I can't find anything in my repair manuals about that - is that a possibility?  The part is expensive ($170) and I don't want to replace it if it is not a feasible explanation.  Can you help?

Answer
The problem with having a fuel injected bike is when it doesnt run. You need to have a dianostic run on the bike so you know what the problem is. It sounds like the dealer is taking a wild guess as to what the problem is. Right now it could be anything. It could be the bank angle senser or the cam position position senser. If he dealer just wants to change parts out until he finds it then go someplace else.
Good luck and happy riding
