Motorcycle Repair: 82kz1000 ltd, timing light, carburettors

I know you deal mostly in Honda, but maybe you can help.
I just bought a 82kz 1000, It's popping through one of the carbs, could it be fuel or ignition, how can I tell if the timing is advancing.I would think that the motors are similar

More than likely the carburettors need cleaning.  It is also possible the carburettor boot is not sealing properly and you are getting false air into the engine.  You'll need to remove the carb and inspect/clean.  It is less likely to be ignition in my experience.  You can check if the ignition is advancing with a timing light.  The mtors are not similar between Honda and Kawasaki...!
