Motorcycle Repair: 1980 Honda XL250S, honda xl250s, hook up

Dear Expert,
My bike runs good and will shift through all the gears, but the gears don't engage.  Why don't the gears "hook up"? ??

Sounds like you have a problem with the clutch on your bike.  If you can select the gears, inspect the clutch first.  If the clutch is OK, then perhaps all of the engaging dogs have broken off a gear, which is a major overhaul job to replace.  Good luck,  Jan
