Motorcycle Repair: Worn clutch release finger on 86 FXR Liberty Ed Low Rider, worn clutch, clutch release

Question
Hi,
I have an 86 FXR with a 5 speed trany that will not shift correctly. The problem started soon after I bought this bike a little over a month ago. One my way to nursing class 2wks ago I couldnt get the bike to shift at all. The clutch wouldnt engage and eventually the cable came loose from the shifting arm.

After I got it home, I had someone take the cover off and the clutch finger appeared to have heated up (fluids were full) and had significant wear to the finger.

I bought a new release finger, put it on and the same thing happened. I'm assuming the throw out bearing is bad?

I've spent hour online trying to find a throw-out bearing clutch kit for a 5 speed, but every bike shop and catalog I've checked only sell this kit for 4 speeds. The release fingers "look" the same, but I'm assuming they are not? If I have to buy these parts individually, can you please tell me what the part numbers are so I can order them? I believe I need the release finger, throw out bearing, pushrods and gaskets? Does this sound correct?

I've been told this a relatively easy fix so could you possibly give me step by step instructions or diagram to tell me how to replace this?

I patiently await your help.
Thank you so much for your time.
Heather

Answer
If you need a diagram you would have to purchace a service manual.

To install the parts you need to remove the end cover of the trans and the derby cover on the primary. On the primary side remove the adjusting stud and then on the tran covr side remove the rod and using somthing small side it through and remove the ends of the pushrod. Install the bearing and the 2 thrush washers and the retaining ring on the end of the rod end and slide it in as well as the rod and other end. Button it up and add fluid  and adjust the clutch.

Here are the parts:

11096        retaining ring
37313-80     thrush washer (2)
37312-75     bearing
37089-84     rod end
37285-84     push rod
37090-84     rod end
37357-84     adjusting stud

Good luck and happy riding
