QUESTION: Mike

I'm sorry to sound like a grape fruit but I am not sure where to look
for the shaft engaging. Is it exposed or enclosed in a housing??Again
sorry to bother you with incomplete info.
Thanks/Peter

ANSWER: its under the primary cover.
Lets back up. When you say the solenoid is working, the solenoid is inside the starter. Are you refering to the starter relay?

QUESTION: Mike

When hitting the ignition switch a clicking sound can be heard..
I thought(from local folks & info) that this indicates that the
solenoid is working. And also been told that if the solenoid is
clicking the problem can either be a low battery voltage (which
is 12.2 volts)or a dirty or bad connection to the starter.
Haven't fully yet checked the started cable(its covered with a rubber boot) and having a problem removed the boot but it looks tight.
do you feel that there is any possibility of this connection being bad??

Answer
the clicking you are hearing is the starter relay. What you need to do is, with a test light, make sure you have power going to the starter relay. Next, check the wire from the relay to the starter and see if you have power going to the starter. If you dont have power going to the starter from the relay then the relay is bad. If you do then you have to pull the starter and do dome tests on it to determine what the problem is.
Good luck and happy riding
