Motorcycle Repair: 1976 flh chain oil system, chain oiler, engine crankcase

HI MIKE I'M BACK, THOUGH IT'S BEEN A WHILE.  I KNOW THAT MY ENGINE CRANKCASE SUMPS UP DUE THE THE BALL CHECK VALVE.  ANYTHING SHORT OF A NEW PUMP, I AM LOOKING AT CLAMPING OFF THE FEED LINE TO THE PUMP WHEN I STOP FOR A WHILE.  A LOCAL BIKE SHOP HERE HAS MADE A LITTLE LAPPING TOOL FOR THIS SEAT, BUT STILL ONLY STOPS IT ABOUT 1 IN 50 ATTEMPTS.  I'LL FIGURE OUT A WAY TO REMIND ME TO PULL IT BEFORE I START OFF AGAIN.  I HAVE FLUSHED OUT MY OIL TANK AND PUT ON "MOSTLY" NEW LINES.  I AM GETTING READY TODAY TO REASSEMBLE THINGS AND START 'ER UP.  I WILL LOOK THROUGH THE INSPECTION PLATE TO SEE HOW MUCH MY PRIMARY CHAIN IS BEING OILED (2-3 DROPS PER MINUTE I THINK IS ABOUT RIGHT).  IF I'M NOT GETTING SUFFICIENT SCAVENGING IN THERE, WILL IT BECOME APPARENT AFTER RUNNING THE BIKE FOR A WHILE (I GUESS BY SEEING EXCESSIVE OIL ACCUMULATION).  I THINK THAT IN ADDITION TO SUMPING UP, I'VE ALWAYS HAD "STICKY" CLUTCH PLATES WHEN THE BIKE HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER A RIDE.  GRABBING AND THEN SLIPPING I THINK IS HOW IT WENT.  I THINK THIS IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST AS THERE IS AT LEAST AN OILY FILM OR LIGHT SPRAY IN SIDE THE CASE.  SO, I SAW SOMEWHERE THAT YOU COULD ALSO DISCONNECT THE PRIMARY OILER AND THE DISCHARGE LINE AND JUST LUBE THE PRIMARY CHAIN ABOUT EVERY 500 MILES.  THE ADJUSTING SCREW FOR THE REAR CHAIN OILER CAN BE TURNED IN JUST ENOUGH TO SEAT AND THUS SHUT OFF THAT (TO KEEP THE FILM FROM SPRAYING ALL OVER THE REAR TIRE AND RIM.  I BELIEVE WITH THE "O" RING CHAIN ONE WOULD THEN HAVE TO MANUALLY LUBE THAT CHAIN ABOUT EVERY 3000 MILES.  LASTLY, IF ONE WERE TO SEAL OFF THE CRANKCASE BREATHER HOW LONG AND WHAT WOULD BE THE NEGATIVE SYMPTOMS OF THAT ACTION.  MY BIKE CAME LIKE THAT WHEN I BOUGHT IT USED, (A BOLT CLAMPED INTO THE BREATHER HOSE), AND ALTHOUGH I ONLY GOT TO PUT A FEW HUNDRED MILES ON IT SINCE THEN (I HAVE HAD SEVERE HEALTH ISSUES FOR OVER 10 YEARS NOW), IT NEVER LEAKED ANY OIL AND ALWAYS RAN GREAT.  I KNOW THAT OTHERS HAVE DONE OR SEEN THE SAME THING ON THEIR BREATHERS.  COULD IT BE THAT SOME WEAR ELSEWHERE IN THE MOTOR COULD ALLOW FOR ENOUGH "BREATHING" FOR ADEQUATE CRANKCASE VENTILATION?  JUST TO CLARIFY THE BREATHER LINE COMES OUT OF THE LOWER REAR SECTION OF THE CRANKCASE ITSELF (NOT ANY HOSE THAT CONNECTS TO THE OIL PUMP OR ANYWHERE ELSE) AND IS SITUATED BELOW THE OIL PUMP, YES?  I AM,SADLY, GETTING THE BIKE READY TO SELL AS IT SEEMS I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REACH THE REQUIRED AMOUNT OF HEALTH AND STRENGTH TO ENJOY IT ANY LONGER.  THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR VAST KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE, AND THE GENEROUS DONATION OF YOUR TIME TO HELP US ALL OUT.  MAHALO NUI LOA, CHRIS

ok, first you cant clamp the vent line off for the primary or it pressurize and backfeed into the oil tank. It need to be open.
Next, the sticking clutch plates might be from the vent closed off. What you need to do is remove the clutches and clean them. the stickness is from the oi on them. They are suppose to be dry.
Not sure if I told you this, but you migth stop the sumping by taking a punch and tapping the ball with it and a hammer to reseat it. Beyound that you will probably have to replae the pump.
The chain get oiled about 2-3 drops per minute. open the vent and your oil should return the tank.
If you want to remove the oil line and the return line from the primary then you need to put oil in there so the chain is always lubed. You would have to put enough oil in so the chain will sling it around.
You can shut the oiler off for the rear chain. I would lube it about every  500 miles.
