Motorcycle Repair: 1986 883 sportster air/fuel mixture screw, 883 harley davidson, air fuel mixture

Question
I bought a 1987 883 Harley Davidson sportster. When I bought it someone cut open the molded tamperproof cover on the air/mixture screw on carburetor. I'm having trouble with idle and it missing at times. How do I set that screw so I know for myself it is set where it's suppose to be?

Answer
The carb will probably have to come off to clean all of the jets properly; your manual should state how many turns the air screw should be out, on most bikes it is 1.5 turns but on HD I'm not sure.  Again refer to the manual, but clean the carb first.

Good luck,  Jan
