Motorcycle Repair: 06 cr 125, power reeds, cr 125

Question
QUESTION: Jan,
I recently bought a 06 cr 125, the first day i rode it about 6 hours. It ran really good, quite alot of bottom end, and top. the next day i rode it 5 mins and fouled a plug. When i pulled it out, it was wet and black. I changed it and fouled 2-3 more after. So i decided to switch from an 8,9 to a 7 fire, the bike ran longer (no foul) yet seamed to have lost bottom end. So next ride i changed it back to an 8 yet still lacked in the bottom end department. If you would be so kind to take a stab at it or something id really appreciate it. Also the fuel in it from the first ride smelled like it had different oil in it, like a chainsaw or weedeater.

ANSWER: It really depends on what 2-cycle oil you're using, and if you are losing bottom end, it sounds like you are losing compression.  I think you will have to take the head and cylinder off to have a look what's going on.  Did you ask the previous owner what mix and what oil he used?

Good luck,  Jan

QUESTION: Thank u. I have been running 32:1 castrol high performance oil. The previous owner used the same, 32:1. It has seamed to not act up as much, and since i have changed to the 8 very little foul problems! :) I also drained the gear oil sunday and replaced it with a better type transmission oil and it has gained a lil bit of the bottom end back! If i wanted to add on exhaust, jets, and power reeds would that help matters any?

Answer
I have had good results from my FMF fatty gold series pipe, but in order for that all to help, the basic engine has to be in good shape.  Before adding performance parts and complicating things with more variables, make sure the bike is running well in stock condition before changing things...

Good luck,  Jan
