Motorcycle Repair: honda 1993 nighthawk oil screen, phillips head screws, honda 250

Question
Jan,
I have a 1993 Honda 250 Nighthawk---
I've changed the oil, but can't find
where the oil screen is. Could you
tell me where the oil screen is located?
Thanks,
John

Answer
oil screen is on the right side of the engine (as you sit on the bike) -- you have to remove the right side cover (drain oil first) to see it -- may require a new 15 dollar paper gasket. it is on the bottom (intake side) of the oil pump mounted against what is then the back wall with three phillips head screws that are loc-tightened in at the factory and very difficult to remove (especially on older bikes where they have never been out).

to remove the screen the pump has to come out. but you can inspect it by getting down there with a flashlight and a mirror and, if necessary, swab clean the intake (exposed) side with q-tips. That is what I'd do, and leave the pump in place.

Good luck,  Jan
