Motorcycle Repair: turn signals, left turn signal, fxstb

2000 FXSTB.  Over the past few years the left turn signal has been intermittent.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt - no ryhme or reason.  Right side works fine.  I have a manual but wanted to see what you thought?  What do you think the offending part is? where is it located and generally how it is replaced?  I have basic tools and skills.

Since it works on and off I would suspect a loose wire or connection. I would start at the light and work my way back, checking the wires for chaffing and all the connections. Unplug the connections and make sure they are not corroded. After that if its still doing it then, with a test light, check for power coming out of the TSSM going to the lights. It is located under the seat.
