Motorcycle Repair: my honda crf 80, 2005 honda crf, honda crf 80

Question
i have a 2005 honda crf 80cc, and i bought it off of my friend about a week ago, and its been running fine, and then i tried to start it, and it did, but it didnt sound right, and then i put in first, and it rode a little, but not right. then it just wouldn't start.

Answer
Nick, I would clean the fuel tank and carburetor out first, refilling with fresh fuel.

Pull the spark plug out and see if it looks wet/dry/black/sooty/oily. That will give clues about what is happening inside the cylinder. Check for a good spark. If the plug is dirty, you might not see the spark so always check with a fresh or known good plug.

No spark can mean several things.....  KILL SWITCH ON/OFF, pulse generator failure, CDI module box failure, ignition switch grounding internally.

If the carburetor idle jet is plugged up, the bike will not start/start easily. You may have to remove the carburetor and clean the jets and float bowl.

Check valve clearances to ensure that there is .002" on intake/exhaust valves checked COLD on the compression stroke.

A running engine needs compression, fuel, air, spark to make it go...  find the missing element.
