Motorcycle Repair: CL350K2 top end noise, cam chain, bill silver

Question
Hi Bill,
I just got the replacement parts (nos) for the top end.
the new roller for the cam chain is 55mm in dia. the old one has worn down to 42mm dia. plus is hard as a rock. I think that maybe my top end noise was caused by so much slack in the cam chain that the cam chain adjuster could not compensate for it. Also I ck'd the wrist pin's play I have a little play but I am thinking about replacing them.

Answer
Paul, I think your assessment is probably correct. You might notice some signs of the camchain slapping around inside the cylinder block tunnel. The loose wristpins will cause some clicking noises if noticeably loose. You do need to replace the camchain, as part of the process. Buy a new chain and find a matching replaceable masterlink for it. Cut the old chain and thread the new one into the end of the worn one and pull it around the crankshaft. This will save you having to pull the whole motor down to loop a new endless camchain around the crankshaft.
