Motorcycle Repair: battery, starter solenoid, amp battery

Question
QUESTION: I have a custom pro street with a TPengineering 124 ci motor and I just rewired the entire bike completing last week. I installed a new fiberglass mat gel type battery 2 months ago because battery has to lay on its side. I took 3 short rides since rewire and bike ran good. Yesterday I drove to store and when I came out, I started bike and it shut down after 3 seconds. Got bike home and found .3 volts reading on battery. Could I have problem with starter or is this just a fluke bad battery.
Thanks  Vic

ANSWER: Charge the battery and with a volt meter check it to see if its dropping off. If it is, check your wiring for a short. If no short, have the battery tested. Also, start the bike and at the battery make sure you have arouond 13 volts at 2000 RPM. If not then your charging system is not working

QUESTION: I guess what I'm asking is, will a electrical malfunction in the starter cause the new battery to short internally? The motor is a high compression requiring a heavy duty starter which in turn requires a high cranking amp battery. Since the bike started fine and cut out after 3 seconds and reading less than 1 volt on battery, I would have to believe the battery failed internally. At less than 1 volt, most electronic chargers will not even recognize battery.
Thanks

Answer
It can if the starter solenoid is sticking. But if it does the starter and wiring usually gets really hot. You are loosing all the voltaqe in your battery, so its either a short in the wiring, or you have a bad battery.
